Kobe Bryant will be busy this summer playing in the Olympics, but so will the rest of the Lakers organization. The summer-time is meant for summer leagues, where the Lakers have a chance to evaluate their young players and possibly hand out training camp invites. For basketball prospects, this is a huge opportunity. Proving yourself here and getting a ticket to training camp could mean a place on the Lakers roster. To see who made this years Summer League roster, check out Ramneet Singh’s post here. It should be exciting to see who steps up and flourishes this summer.
The summer league may bring some players for the Lakers bench, but there are still trade rumors to address. Once the Lakers officially announced Nash as the newest member of the team in yesterday’s press conference, there was still wonder as to the team’s intentions moving forward. Questions were fired to Mitch Kupchak about making another big trade this season, but the Lakers GM seemed hesitant to admit it was possible. But what about Dwight Howard? The Nets are no longer in contention for the Magic’s star player; unfortunately for Brooklyn, the deal never came to fruition with both sides failing to see eye-to-eye on a trade once again. The recent trade rumor involving the Lakers shipping Bynum to the Houston Rockets in exchange for Howard in the three-way deal with the Orlando Magic may be the best trade scenario potentially in the works.
Between the Olympics, the summer league, and another potentially large Lakers trade, this summer is going to be exciting.
