The latest team in hot pursuit of Jackson is the Brooklyn Nets. With the Nets parting ways with interim head coach P.J. Carlesimo, Jackson has become the team’s top target to take over. The head coaching position in Brooklyn has been a revolving door since the team made the move from New Jersey to the Barclays Center with Avery Johnson being fired early in the season and Carlesimo being sent packing after leading the team into the NBA playoffs.
Obviously, Jackson is the ideal candidate for the Nets with 11-time titles to his credit and the ability to turn teams into contenders. It remains to be seen whether or not Brooklyn will offer the kind of opportunity and desired salary to lure him out of retirement.
Along with the Nets attempting to take a run at signing Jackson during the off-season, the Hall of Famer also has the Toronto Raptors wanting to bring him in to become the team’s president of basketball operations. Jackson has been itching to return to the NBA in some capacity with most believing he’d rather be in the front office rather than coaching from the sidelines and on the road with the team for the next few years.
Until Jackson officially walks away from the game and no longer considers options to return to the game in some capacity, the speculation will be ongoing with no telling whether or not he’ll decide to comeback.
