With Buss guiding the team to 10 NBA titles while bringing in countless stars to play under the bright lights of Los Angeles, the former chemistry teacher at USC was able to leave his imprint on the NBA, the Lakers and the great city of Los Angeles.
While the Buss family, current and former players as well as fans mourn arguably the most successful owners in professional sports in this country, the team is left without its greatest leader with so many questions surrounding the future of the franchise in the hands of Dwight Howard and Kobe Bryant.
With Kobe and Dwight not exactly seeing eye-to-eye and a lot of uncertainty surrounding Howard’s future in Los Angeles, the trade speculation kicked into high gear this week with the NBA trade deadline rapidly approaching. Although the Lakers seemed poised to make a deal before ravaged by injuries to Pau Gasol and Jordan Hill, the team seems to be sticking to the stance of standing pat before the deadline on Thursday, Feb. 21.
GM Mitch Kupchak has made it clear on a few occasions over the past few days that the team has no intention of trading Howard and no major trades are on the horizon in the coming days.
Whether or not Kupchak’s comments are ultimately true remains to be seen, but as of right now, the Lakers roster will stay the same moving forward.
