With Kobe Bryant meeting with Rajon Rondo for breakfast on Friday, the rumors have started to run rampant about a blockbuster trade that could be in the works. Rondo has been long since linked to the Lakers, but might not be landing in Los Angeles anytime soon.

According to Sean Deveney of Sporting News, the Lakers have interest in Rondo, but trading for the star point guard doesn’t appear to be in the cards right now:
Though the Lakers, like many teams, have a standing interest in Rondo, one source told Sporting News any notion of Los Angeles acquiring Rondo is, “all smoke, no fire.” The Celtics and Lakers have had no substantive talks regarding Rondo, and sources continue to maintain that Rondo has not been shopped by Boston in any way.
Although Rondo likely won’t be traded to the Lakers before the NBA trade deadline on Feb. 19, the one-time NBA champion might be headed to Los Angeles in free agency. The Celtics will almost certainly go all out to re-sign Rondo in the off-season while trying to holding off suitors like the Lakers and Houston Rockets.
Rondo will be one of the biggest names on the free agent market this summer along with a few other potential game-changers. Marc Gasol, LaMarcus Aldridge, Greg Monroe and DeAndre Jordan will also be available come July.
In 16 games this season, Rondo is averaging a league-best 11.3 assists per game to go along with 8.6 points and 7.4 rebounds per contest.
