Lakers Rumors & Recap: Pau Gasol Done In Los Angeles?

NBA: Los Angeles Lakers at Denver NuggetsThe Los Angeles Lakers ended the season in disappointment with the team failing to live up to high expectations after revamping the roster with superstar talent around Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol. With the team going back to the drawing board during the NBA off-season while facing a large luxury tax, the team is considering all options with Gasol potentially on the chopping block.

Ever since the Chris Paul trade was vetoed back in 2011, Gasol has been surrounded by speculation in terms of potentially being traded by the storied franchise. Despite the numerous trade rumors over the past two seasons, Gasol has remained in Los Angeles, but now the Spaniard’s stint with the Lakers may finally be over.

All signs seems to be leading toward the Lakers amnestying or trading Gasol before next season. Gasol has one year left on his contract at $19.2 million and still has trade value with another team potentially willing to make a deal for the two-time NBA champion.

Although Gasol still has trade value and would save the team a lot of money if amnestied, Kobe has been vocal about wanting Gasol and Dwight Howard back next season. It remains to be seen whether or not Kobe’s desire to have back will be enough to keep Gasol in Los Angeles, but the writing seems to be on the will in terms of Gasol heading elsewhere before next season.
