Rumors surrounding Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo have heated up recently as the Celtics have showed ‘renewed interest’ in shipping out the former All-Star and teams have been lining up their best offers.

The Dallas Mavericks looked to be one of the frontrunners to land Rondo, but the Los Angeles Lakers were also one of the teams who inquired about him. According to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, the Lakers made a pretty serious offer for the Celtics point guard:

Steve Nash’s expiring contract, worth nearly $10 million is a very tantalizing trade chip and could help the Celtics clear out even more cap room than they are already scheduled to have.

For the Lakers, adding Rondo would immediately improve the team. He is an expert at getting other players great shots, something that very few Lakers can do on this roster. He is also someone who could appeal to other free agents this summer.

Rondo is an unrestricted free agent this summer as well, so the Lakers do run the risk of losing him much like Dwight Howard a couple of years ago. It is worth noting, however, that Rondo and Kobe Bryant already have an established friendship unlike Dwight and Kobe had.

The Lakers have a lot of competition in trying to get Rondo away from the Celtics, but it looks as if the front office is doing everything they can to improve the roster.
