Magic Johnson Advises Carmelo Anthony To Stay With The Knicks

Over the past few months, the speculation surrounding the immediate future of superstar Carmelo Anthony has really started to ramp up. The New York Knicks quickly are heading into a downward spiral and may end up losing their biggest star as a result.

One potential destination for Anthony is with the Los Angeles Lakers if he chooses to opt-out of his current deal with the Knicks this summer. Although the Chicago Bulls have emerged as a possible frontrunner if Anthony becomes a free agent, the Lakers will be in the running. The perennial All-Star will a chance to play alongside Kobe Bryant and for a franchise that has won 16 titles, but it might not be enough to lure him in.

Unfortunately, a certain Lakers legend doesn’t seem to be in favor of Anthony coming to Los Angeles. Five-time NBA champion Magic Johnson has been highly critical of the Lakers organization recently and now has urged Anthony to stay in New York through his Twitter account on Sunday:

As one of the few great NBA players able to stay with the same team throughout his entire career, Johnson urging Anthony to stay loyal to the Knicks shouldn’t be all that surprising.

With all the rumors and speculation surrounding Anthony heading to the Lakers this summer, Johnson’s advice has become amplified.

As for Anthony, there’s no telling what he’ll do this summer. The Knicks don’t appear to be on the verge of turning it around this season, leading many to believe he’ll head elsewhere, but anything can happen between now and the moment Anthony is forced to decide to stay or go.
