Dwight Howard has been one of the most talked about people in the NBA recently despite the Lakers being swept out of the first round of the playoffs more than a month ago. No one has any clue where will decide to go this offseason, but everyone has an opinion on it, including ESPN analyst and Laker legend Magic Johnson.

In a conference call with reporters, Johnson refused to give a guess as to where Howard will land, but did offer an opinion on how good the Rockets would be if they landed Howard:

With Dwight Howard, (Houston) would take the next step as being one of the elite teams – I would say one through four or five one of the best four or five teams in the league – and definitely would give themselves a chance to win a championship.

Johnson cited James Harden as an emerging superstar, Kevin McHale being a coach Howard would enjoy playing for, and a young talented roster that includes Jeremy Lin, Omer Asik, and Chandler Parsons as reasons why Howard would enjoy being in Houston and why the Rockets would be a championship contender.

Magic did not deny his unhappiness with Dwight’s performance this season, but still believes there is hope for the young center if he puts in the work:

There are a lot of questions and uncertainties regarding Howard and whether the Lakers should sign him. Many have been critical of the young center and he undoubtedly still needs to work on his game, but wherever he lands this offseason will more than likely be better for having him on the roster.
