Magic Johnson Joins Detroit VC Firm to Invest in Tech Startups

Lakers legend Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson has announced his latest venture, a pairing with a Detroit VC firm, Detroit Venture Partners, to help invest in tech startups.

Johnson, who is a well known entrepreneur and businessman, will be teaming up with the company’s founder and Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert.

Detroit Venture Partners was established in 2010. The fund will invest exclusively in digital media, mobile app development, cloud computing, e-commerce and social networking companies.

Johnson, who was born in Lansing and went to school at Michigan State, said he believes firmly in the ‘Detroit 2.0 movement.’
