Five-time NBA champion Magic Johnson isn’t one to shy away from making bold statements. With the Los Angeles Lakers struggling over the past three years, Magic has taken to Twitter on more than one occasion to voice his opinion about the direction of the team and criticize management, especially Executive vice president Jim Buss.

The former face of the franchise has received both high praise and a fair amount of criticism for expressing his opinions so freely. Johnson might have to prepare for more praise and backlash for another tweet that’ll likely have mixed reactions.
On Monday, the Lakers legend took to Twitter to make a bold statement. Johnson believes only three players currently in the playing in the NBA today could hold their own during his era:
Three future Hall Of Famers that could've played when MJ, Bird and I were playing are Tim Duncan, Kobe Bryant and LeBron James.
— Earvin Magic Johnson (@MagicJohnson) May 11, 2015
Ironically enough, Kobe Bryant and Tim Duncan may only have one season left in them. LeBron James, however, may be in the league for five or 10 more years depending on how long his body can hold up.
Although many may agree with Magic’s statement, there’s definitely a case to be made for plenty of other current NBA stars in the league. Kevin Durant, Marc Gasol and DeMarcus Cousins are three other players that come to mind along with possibly Russell Westbrook.
Magic’s comments will likely spark an interesting debate among players, coaches, and the fans with plenty of other candidates possibly being mentioned as being able to hold their own during Johnson’s era.
