While the Los Angeles Lakers failed in getting the star players they were after this off-season, they did succeed in bringing in a number of new players who can improve the team, particularly in the frontcourt. Mitch Kupchak spoke about his big man depth with the additions of Carlos Boozer, Ed Davis and Julius Randle.

Kupchak said he believes the Lakers are deepest in the frontcourt and while he was cautious to put too much praise on Randle because he is a rookie, Kupchak definitely likes some things about the rookie as Lakers Nation reporter Serena Winters noted:
Kupchak pointed out Julius Randle's "gifted quickness, he loves contact (sometimes that’s good sometimes that’s not good)."

While many are focused on the rookie Randle and the veteran Boozer, the potential of Ed Davis has been overlooked at times this off-season. Kupchak, however, is looking forward to see what he will bring to the team according to Lakers reporter Mike Trudell:
Kupchak likes Ed Davis, implied it was a no brainer to bring him here w/the talent he has. Looking forward to seeing what he has to offer.

Those three, along with the returning Jordan Hill, are expected to make up the Lakers rotation in the frontcourt. A formidable group with equal parts experience and potential.

With the likes of Tim Duncan, Marc Gasol, LaMarcus Aldridge and Blake Griffin all in the Western Conference, the Lakers bigs will have to battle on a nightly basis. If they can prove to be up to the challenge, it completely changes what the Lakers are capable of.
