NBA Draft Rumors: 76ers Trying To Trade Second-Round Picks

With the 2017 NBA Draft just around the corner, set to take place on June 22, the rumor mill is beginning to heat up.

One team who could be involved in a few different trades is the Philadelphia 76ers, who own the No. 3 pick behind the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers, in addition to having four second-round picks.

The four second-rounders are No. 36, 39, 46, and 50. While it is nice having a bunch of picks to help the rebuilding prospects, four second-rounders is simply too many as the 76ers do not have enough room on the roster for all of them.

One possibility is a draft-and-stash, as they can draft international players and let them play overseas for another year or two to continue to grow as players.

Another option is to package some of those picks in a trade, which according to Nick Silva of ESPN, they are attempting to do:

“They’re trying to sell one of the second-rounders,” a league executive said.

It appears that the las two picks, 46 and 50, are what they are shopping the most, via Silva:

“Their last two second-rounders are in play [for possible trades]. The word is out there,” added another source.

Philadelphia has also been involved in trade rumors surrounding their No. 3 picks, as the way their current roster is looking a shooter like Malik Monk of Kentucky is what they covet most, but taking Monk at No. 3 may be a bit of a reach.

76ers president of basketball operations and general manager Bryan Colangelo could go a multitude of different directions in the upcoming draft, so it will be interesting to see what direction he decides to go in.
