The 2013-14 NBA season has gone from bad to worse for the Cleveland Cavaliers with All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving potentially done for the season according to Mary Schmitt Boyer of the Cleveland Plain Dealer:

It’s possible the Cavaliers lost Kyrie Irving for the season in Sunday’s 102-80 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday night at Staples Center.

Irving, the Cavs All-Star point guard, left the game with a left biceps injury late in the first quarter, and left the arena with his left arm in a sling. He is scheduled to have an MRI on Monday in Cleveland, but two NBA sources indicated the injury could be severe enough to end his season in the worst case scenario.

It has been a rough season to say the least for the Cavs with seemingly nothing going right for the struggling franchise. Head coach Mike Brown has found it difficult to turn the team around even with plenty of promising young talent and adding veterans like Jarrett Jack and Luol Deng.

This was thought to be the year the Cavs emerged as a legitimate threat in the Eastern Conference with Irving leading the way. Although Irving earned an All-Star selection, it hasn’t been a memorable season for the former number one overall pick out of Duke.

The future remains uncertain for the rising star with rumors circulating that he wants out of Cleveland. As expected, the Cavs have been reluctant to trade Irving with hopes they could build around him, but all efforts to do so have failed thus far.

Losing Irving for the rest of the way is a severe blow for a team holding onto hope of clinching a playoff spot. The Cavs are currently sitting in 10th place in the East with a record of 26-41, but are still in contention for a playoff spot behind the New York Knicks (27-40) and Atlanta Hawks (29-35).
