Two and a half weeks since his racist comments were recorded on tape, Donald Sterling has finally decided to publicly apologize and ask for forgiveness. Sterling recently sat down with CNN’s Anderson Cooper for an interview that will air tomorrow night on CNN.

According to ESPN News Services, Sterling told Cooper he is not a racist and is doing the interview to ask for forgiveness:
“I’m not a racist,” Sterling told CNN’s Anderson Cooper in an interview that will air Monday. “I made a terrible mistake. I’m here to apologize.”
Sterling goes on to say that he made one mistake, and if given the chance, it will never happen again:
“I’m a good member who made a mistake and I’m apologizing and I’m asking for forgiveness,” Sterling told Cooper. “Am I entitled to one mistake, am I after 35 years? I mean, I love my league, I love my partners. Am I entitled to one mistake? It’s a terrible mistake, and I’ll never do it again.”
The NBA is currently in the midst of developing a plan of action that would force Sterling out as owner of the Los Angeles Clippers. The next step is for the NBA owners to take a vote on the situation. A 75 percent vote in favor of ousting Sterling as owner is needed for the league to continue with their plan.
Although Sterling has been banned for life, his wife, Shelly Sterling, has stated on numerous occasions that she intends to keep her 50 percent ownership of the team.

However, several players, including LeBron James, have publicly stated that they want no “Sterling” as an owner in their league.
Sterling’s comments have greatly affected a league in which a majority of the players are African American. Even though Sterling has apologized, it would be pretty surprising if the owners chose not to vote him out.
