The Golden State Warriors have quickly become one of the NBA’s most fun to watch teams and a legitimate contender in a very short time. They made back-to-back playoff appearances for the first time in over 20 years.

Unfortunately for head coach Mark Jackson, that was not enough as Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Warriors fired Jackson today:

This move had been rumored for some time as Jackson reportedly did not get along with the upper management of the Warriors and there were disagreements over Jackson firing certain staff members.

Jackson’s name could come up in the Lakers coaching search as he is a relatively young coach who has shown he can win at the NBA level. The Warriors players consistently praised Jackson during this season despite the constant rumblings that he would be fired.

Jackson’s firing now provides a very intriguing opening in the NBA. The Warriors are sure to attract a lot of interest from potential coaches due to their excellent core of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, David Lee, and Andre Igoudala.

Some of the coaches who have rumored to be interested in the Lakers job will likely have just as much if not more interest in the Warriors position, so the Lakers may have some tough competition to get the coach they want.

In three seasons with the Warriors, Jackson compiled a record of 121-109 along with a first-round upset of the Denver Nuggets in the first round of last year’s playoffs.
