It has been a wild 24 hours for some of the NBA’s best point guards. While Kyrie Irving may be ready for a new situation, John Wall has locked himself into his current one for the forseeable future.

Wall, who is coming off the best season of his NBA career, had been offered a supermax contract from the Washington Wizards, but wanted to see what the Wizards did this offseason before agreeing to the extension. Wall obviously liked what he saw from Washington this summer as he has officially agreed to an extension worth $207 million according to David Aldridge of NBA.com:

Wall cemented himself as one of the league’s top point guards this past season. He posted career-highs in points (23.1), assists (10.7), steals (2.0), and field goal percentage (45.1 percent). He was rewarded with his fourth All-Star selection as well as his first All-NBA selection, making the third team.

It was that All-NBA Third team selection that made Wall eligible for this extension. Technically, it is a four-year $170 million extension, but Wall still has two years and $37 million left on his current deal, making the contract, as a whole, worth the $207 million.

With Bradley Beal already getting his new contract last summer and Otto Porter getting a max deal earlier this offseason, Wall knows he has his core players already in Washington with him. Now they will have to see if they can take the next step as far as team success.

Last year the Wizards made the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs, falling to the Boston Celtics in a hard-fought seven game series. Wall will undoubtedly be looking to move past that in the coming years.
