NBA News: Kyrie Irving, Cavaliers Agree To Five-Year Extension

After trade speculation through much of the season, Kyrie Irving and the Cleveland Cavaliers have agreed in principle to a five-year max contract extension on Monday night, according to Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski:

Throughout the season, there were reports of the Cavaliers likely not offering a max contract and conflict with teammate Dion Waiters. After failing to meet playoff expectations, the Cavaliers entered the NBA draft where they eventually won the draft lottery with just a 1.7 percent chance.

Heading into the off-season, the Cavaliers have made significant changes by hiring head coach David Blatt, drafting top prospect Andrew Wiggins, and having cap room to pursue superstar LeBron James. While most believe James will return to the Miami Heat, the Cavaliers are an intriguing destination with Irving remaining for the next five seasons.
