The Lakers.
No, seriously. It’s the Lakers fault. At least according to ESPN’s True Hoop (and NBC Pro Basketball Talk’s Brett Pollakoff) it is. So what was the explanation?
No games in the whole league on Thursday. I’m told it’s in fact not because of the “American Idol” final, but because several first-round series ended early, moving the start of some second-round series into last weekend. Now they need to stretch out the second round a tad to reduce the risk of a long layoff before the start of the conference finals, which has a fixed start.
Man, as if things couldn’t get worse for the Lakers, now they’re getting blamed for things even though they’ve been eliminated for nearly two weeks. For Laker fans, the lack of basketball on Thursday night might not be the crisis it is for other, hardcore NBA junkies. It’s just exceptionally amusing that this team continues to be unable to do anything right. At this point, they couldn’t even lose correctly.
Still, the team got some encouraging news on Thursday when it was announced Pau Gasol underwent a successful procedure to help repair his injured patellar tendons. So at least there’s that, right?
