The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the teams who will have ample cap room to sign two superstars next summer. While there is still a season to be played, the speculation has already begun with players like LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony becoming unrestricted free agents next summer.
After winning back-to-back championships, LeBron James hasn’t talked about his upcoming free agency until now.
According to ESPN.com, James would love to retire with the Miami Heat:
“I have absolutely no idea. I would love to spend the rest of my career in Miami with this great team and great organization as we continue to compete for championships. That’s ideal.”
While James would ideally like to stay with the Heat, he understands the nature of the business and remains focused on this upcoming season as the Heat try to three-peat:
“We don’t know what may happen from now to the end of the season. That’s the nature of the business. It’s the nature of not knowing what tomorrow brings.”
While many are assuming James will stay with the Heat after this season, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers are said to be strong candidates should he decide to leave.
James has always talked about winning a championship in his hometown and with a young nucleus centered around Kyrie Irving, Cleveland will become an attractive destination if Dwyane Wade continues to decline. Los Angeles would provide LeBron the opportunity to play for arguably the greatest franchise in the NBA and also provide the greatest challenge to play under the bright lights.
While LeBron would like to remain with the Heat, anything can happen from today to the end of the upcoming season. James has enjoyed playing in Los Angeles against the Lakers and has been complimentary of the franchise in the past.
With enough money next off-season, the Lakers will remain a destination for LeBron until he decides to make his decision again.
