NBA News: Mike Brown, Cavs Agree to Five Year Deal

NBA: Los Angeles Lakers-Media DayFormer Los Angeles Lakers coach Mike Brown has made his way back to Cleveland and will be named the new head man for the Cavaliers.

Before joining the Lakers, Brown coached the Cavaliers from 2005 to 2010 and led them to an NBA Finals appearance in 2009. The year before Brown got fired, the Cavaliers had a 60-win season and were one of the toughest teams in the league. However, the franchise wanted to take a different direction after LeBron James left, and that turn included letting go of Brown.

Now, Brown is back in his seat in Cleveland and is hoping to turn the lottery bound team around. Brown was fired by the Lakers earlier this season, and after spending some time away from basketball, Brown is back on the sidelines. According to ESPN, Brown and the Cavaliers have agreed to a five-year, $20 million deal.

Brown, who coached the Cavs to the playoffs in each of the five seasons he coached them, from 2005 to 2010, has agreed to a five-year, $20 million deal, sources told ESPN.com’s Brian Windhorst and ESPN The Magazine’s Chris Broussard on Tuesday. The Cavs have a team option for the fifth year, which is partially guaranteed for Brown.

The Cavaliers parted ways with Byron Scott shortly after the regular season ended, and they moved fast with to hire Brown. Even though Brown did not have a lot of success with the Lakers, he has proven that he can win at this level. His defensive tactics are some of the best in the league, and he will be a great asset to the Cavs and Kyrie Irving.
