NBA News: Stan Van Gundy Believes Howard Is Still NBA’s Best Center

The bromance between former Orlando Magic head coach Stan Van Gundy and soon-to-be Lakers free agent center Dwight Howard continued Thursday.

Van Gundy was on an Orlando radio show and said that he still believes that Howard is the best center in the league despite strong play from Pacers and Grizzlies centers Roy Hibbert and Marc Gasol.

Much has been made about Howard’s play last season as the seven-time All-Star struggled in his first season in Los Angeles after recovering from back surgery.

Howard averaged 17.1 points and 12.4 rebounds last season and wasn’t the dominate force he was when he was in Orlando. It was a difficult season for Howard as the early-season coaching change to Mike D’Antoni upset him and could be the reason why he doesn’t re-sign with the Lakers.

Regardless, Howard should come back stronger next season and will definitely have a chip on his shoulder to prove that he is the best center in the NBA.
