NBA Rumors: Kyrie Irving To Be Traded Before 2015 NBA Trade Deadline?

One of the most promising young players in the NBA today could be on the move before the NBA trade deadline in 2015. Up-and-coming point guard Kyrie Irving has stated publicly that he wants to stay with the Cleveland Cavaliers, but that may be far from the actual truth according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst:

And while Irving has said all the right things about staying put in public, it’s no secret that Irving’s camp has been making it known for years now the point guard would like to be elsewhere long term. No matter how much he denies it.

On July 1, the Cavs will make a final pitch to Irving in order to lock him up for the foreseeable future. Cleveland will attempt to sign Irving to a lucrative long-term deal, but may struggle to do so and therefore be forced to trade him before the 2015 NBA trade deadline according to Windhorst:

The Cleveland Cavaliers will offer Irving a maximum contract extension once they’re allowed to on July 1, and if he hasn’t signed it by October, the team will likely be forced to trade him before the Oct. 31 deadline for third-year players to extend their contracts.

With the Cavs seemingly going nowhere with Irving leading the way, Cleveland trading the reigning All-Star MVP elsewhere may not be as farfetched as once thought. If he wants out of Cleveland, there’s no point in begging him to stay like the Cavs did with LeBron James a few years back.

As a result of Irving potentially being on his way out, a possible destination is with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Recently, Irving was linked to the Lakers with talk of the young point guard desiring to land in Los Angeles if he did leave Cleveland.

At this point in time, it may be a stretch to say that Irving is destined to become a Lakers, but if he’s on his way out and has expressed an interest in wearing the purple and gold, it may be realistic possibility.
