Once the trade to send Pau Gasol to the Cleveland Cavaliers fell apart recently, Andrew Bynum was immediately dealt to the Chicago Bulls in exchange for Luol Deng and multiple draft picks.
After being acquired by the Bulls, Bynum was released and ultimately became an unrestricted free agent after passing through waivers unclaimed.
The Miami Heat were rumored to be interested in Bynum once he became a free agent, but that appears to be only speculation according to Pat Riley via Tom Haberstroh of ESPN:
“It’s all speculation,” Riley said. “That’s all it is. There will be a tremendous amount of research (on free agents). There’s nothing going at all. There’s nothing happening at all with that situation.”
With Greg Oden finally healthy and ready to contribute, the Heat losing interest in Bynum comes as no surprise. The real question moving forward is if another contending team will roll the dice on the veteran center.
The Indiana Pacers and Los Angeles Clippers were also rumored to have interest in the two-time NBA champion, but the Clippers seem to be out of the running now and the Pacers haven’t reached out to the veteran.
