Heading into the off-season, Davis is eligible for a contract extension. According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, the New Orleans Pelicans will present him with a max contract that could approach $140 million and would start in the 2016-17 season:

With star forward Anthony Davis eligible for a contract extension this summer, Pelicans officials plan to be aggressive as possible in presenting him with a maximum five-year deal that could approach $140 million, according to league sources.

After averaging 24.4 points and 10.2 rebounds in the regular season, Davis led his Pelicans to their first playoff appearance since trading Chris Paul. While the Pelicans were swept by the Golden State Warriors on Saturday, Davis averaged 31.4 points and 11.4 rebounds.

With Davis one of the best players in the league, the Pelicans are looking to improve their roster into a championship-caliber team. While the franchise has recently traded draft picks for established players, it will be interesting to see if they are able to take the next step.
