With the NBA trade deadline (Feb. 20) rapidly approaching, teams around the NBA are starting to assess their situation in terms of competing for a playoff spot or looking towards the future. One team that may be very active leading up to the deadline is the Cleveland Cavaliers.
As a result of the season being a huge disappointment for the Cavs, the struggling franchise seems ready to shake things up yet again. Cleveland is reportedly ready to make deals unless there’s a drastic turnaround in the coming weeks according to Jason Lloyd of Akron Beacon Journal:
Two sources close to the team confirmed that barring a significant turnaround before the trade deadline, this roster will likely face some upheaval. That very well could include Waiters, whose act has worn thin on his teammates and various members of the organization.
Last month, the Cavs decided to part ways with Andrew Bynum, sending the two-time NBA champion to the Chicago Bulls in exchange for Luol Deng. The Los Angeles Lakers appeared to be the verge of making a deal with the Cavs to acquire and then release Bynum for Pau Gasol, but the deal fell through.
The move to acquire Deng appeared to be the right one, but it hasn’t been a game-changer the Cavs were looking for. As a result of the team continuing to struggle, Cleveland may pull the trigger on another big trade before the deadline with Dion Waiters potentially being the player sent packing.
