With the 2013-2014 NBA season fully under way, our partners over at SB Nation put together a video with Coach Nick looking back at some of the most talked-about calls by referees in the first week of the season.
With the help of former NBA Director of Officials Ronnie Nunn, they spotlight and critique some of the calls that have been made thus far and look into some of the foul calls and new rules or not well-known rules in the NBA. They look at calls such as the new delay of game rule or illegal out of bounds positioning rules.
Nunn talks about how he doesn’t understand how Kevin Durant got called for a delay of game for barely touching the ball after it went through the hoop but Ray Allen didn’t get called for a delay of game after catching a ball, holding on to it and then dropping it at the feet of the opponent after the ball went through the hoop.
They also took a look back at an offensive foul by Lakers center Chris Kaman where the defender might have been moving, but because Kaman was kind of out of control and spinning, he got called for the charge and might have been called for a traveling violation as well.
