A shoe is one of the most important parts of a players’ on-court attire. It serves as a marketing tool, a symbol of the player’s expression, and protects the player’s feet and ankles.
Last night against the Detroit Pistons, Manu Ginobili’s shoe failed him.
While defending Pistons guard Rodney Stuckey, Ginobili planted on his left foot when his shoe split at the seams. Ginobili continued to play with his shoe wrapped around his ankle until a timeout allowed him to go change it.
It was truly a bizarre moment for a number of reasons. The obvious one being it’s something that hasn’t been seen before.
