Nick Young Says Lakers Have To ‘Prove Something’ This Year

Expectations are not very high for the Los Angeles Lakers this upcoming season, but that means nothing to the players who will be suiting up in the purple and gold.

Owner of a new four-year contract, Nick Young will be counted on as a major player for this team. In an interview with Lakers reporter Mike Trudell, Young said he and the Lakers have something to prove:

I got a lot more to do […] They think we sweet so we gotta come back and prove something this year.

One can only assume, the ‘they’ Young is referring to is the rest of the league. At times the Lakers were pushovers last season, and Young believes that will not be the case this season:

Coming into this Lakers gym, it ain’t gonna be no walk in the park, that’s all I’m gonna say. We’re hungry. I like steak for dinner so I need to eat some more steak.

The Lakers definitely look like a much improved team on paper. A healthy Kobe Bryant automatically improves the team at every level. The addition of Jeremy Lin improves the point guard spot even if Steve Nash isn’t healthy.

Both Carlos Boozer and Ed Davis will be playing with a chip on their shoulder as Boozer looks to prove he can still contribute, and Davis wants to be seen as more than just potential.

Add in rookies Julius Randle and Jordan Clarkson and the Lakers definitely have the talent to prove to the rest of the league that things have changed. With training camp mere weeks away, it will soon be time for the Lakers to eat.
