NBA: Memphis Grizzlies at Los Angeles LakersThe Los Angeles Lakers began their off-season earlier than expected and hoped for as their season did not go the way that was planned. A massive and consistent amount of injuries to just about every player on the team were one of the biggest obstacles that prevented the Lakers into making much noise in the season and postseason.

One of the players who was held captive by multiple injuries this season was two-time champion Pau Gasol. The Spaniard had arguably the worst season of his career in which his injuries played a major role in.

While his performance vastly improved in the last month of the season and in the first round (D’Antoni finally played him to his strengths), his knee injury (both knees) was severe enough to undergo a FAST procedure, in which he is now on the road to recovery from.

Therefore, this off-season, like a good portion of Laker players, is about the recovery process and getting ready for next season for Pau. Meanwhile, his brother, Marc, is currently in the Western Conference Finals against the team that swept the Lakers out of the first round, the Spurs. The Gasol brothers are very close, and Pau was in attendance for Game 3 in Memphis on Saturday night, as evidenced by his tweets:

In case you missed the game, the Grizzlies lost to the Spurs in overtime. Now, like his brother and the Lakers, Marc Gasol and the Grizzlies face elimination via a sweep by the Spurs. Game 4 is scheduled for Monday at 6:00 PM PST.

As for Pau, it remains unclear if he will remain a Laker for next season despite the desire to remain in purple and gold by his teammate, Kobe Bryant. Pau’s future as a Laker may be determined by free agent Dwight Howard’s decision.
