Pau Gasol Expresses Frustration With Lakers’ Defense, Losing

After the Los Angeles Lakers lost by nine to the Orlando Magic on Friday night, two-time NBA champion Pau Gasol was clearly frustrated with the team’s effort. Gasol said the following the media after the game on TWC SportsNet:

“We’re not very good defensively, to say the least.”

There’s no question the defense is flawed with this team playing well offensively every single night, but the Lakers haven’t been able to play consistently well defensively leading to the mounting frustration Gasol is dealing with.

Gasol is usually reserved when talking the media following losses, but seems to have had enough after losing to the worst teams in the NBA time and time again. Friday was no different with Gasol finally hitting a boiling point:

“When you lose to the worst teams in the league you have to ask yourself why. What does that make you?”

As a result of the loss to the Magic, the Lakers are now sitting in 14th place in the Western Conference only a game and half ahead of the Utah Jazz with a 16-28 record.

Despite the Lakers’ struggles, Gasol has played much better as of late and averaging 16.6 points, 10.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game. Gasol may be putting up solid numbers, but it hasn’t resulted in the team turning things around in order to be a legitimate playoff contender in the West.
