During a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, veteran cornerback DeAngelo Hall of the Washington Redskins suffered a torn left Achilles. Hall’s season is now over as a result of the severe injury and the 30-year-old immediately sought out the advice of a fellow professional athlete that had gone through the same injury recently.

Hall reached out to his friend Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers for advice about recovering from the Achilles injury. Kobe preached patience to Hall as he recovers from the worst injury of his career, via CBS DC:

“He was probably the most notable guy that I remember having an Achilles injury and coming back,” Hall said Monday, of reaching out to Bryant. “He said the same thing our trainers have. Just be patient with it. It’s going to feel like you can push. It’s going to feel like you can do some things. But the best thing for that is to not do anything. Be as patient as possible.”

Back in April of 2013, Kobe ruptured his Achilles tendon forcing him to miss nine months of basketball activities. The Lakers superstar has a reputation for battling through injuries his entire career, but the torn Achilles was not something he could simply play through.

After returning from the Achilles injury back in December, the veteran shooting guard played in only six games before going down with a knee injury that ended his season. Although Kobe successfully returned from an Achilles injury that has ended the careers of many professional athletes over the age of 30 in the past, uncertainty surrounds his immediate future with the Lakers.

As for Hall, the Redskins corner appears to be in good spirits and determined to return to the gridiron when healthy. The true test for Hall will be whether he can be patient in his recovery as Kobe suggested.
