Report: Former Laker Derek Fisher Signs With Dallas Mavericks

During the off-season, five-time NBA champion Derek Fisher was found trying to stay in shape at the Los Angeles Lakers practice facility in El Segundo, California. Fisher’s deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder had expired and no teams were showing much interest in the veteran point guard.

Although Fisher was participating in scrimmages with former and current Lakers, the team had no intention of re-signing the longtime Laker, with Steve Nash, Steve Blake, Darius Morris, and Chris Duhon creating a crowded backcourt.

The reunion interested both parties, but wasn’t a realistic possibility.

With the first month of the season in the books, Fisher has remained unemployed and actively looking for work, and it seems that he has finally found a new home.

According to the Associated Press, Fisher agreed to a deal with the Dallas Mavericks.

The short-handed Dallas Mavericks will sign 16-year veteran point guard Derek Fisher on Thursday, coach Rick Carlisle said after team’s 101-78 loss to Chicago on Wednesday night.

It was always doubtful that Fisher would return to the Lakers, even despite the recent injury problems with starter Steve Nash and backup Steve Blake.
