After only playing 14 minutes in his rookie season due to a fractured tibia, Julius Randle has shown flashes of his potential during Summer League and training camp. While he was unable to find his shot in the Los Angeles Lakers first preseason game, Randle exploded for 15 points, five rebounds and four assists in 26 minutes.

While Roy Hibbert had himself a double-double, he had high praise for Randle following the 117-114 loss to the Utah Jazz. After Randle’s breakout performance, Hibbert believes the second-year forward is the future of the Lakers via LakersNation.com reporter Serena Winters:

While the Lakers have D’Angelo Russell and Jordan Clarkson, Randle’s unique skillset for his size provides an opportunity for him to become the leader of this young core. Although he suffered a devastating injury in his rookie season, Randle’s teammates have all praised him for his work ethic.

Heading into the new season, the Lakers have a nice blend of veterans and prospects. While the Lakers are currently 0-2 in preseason, there is optimism for this year’s team as they have shown what they are capable of on both ends of the court.
