RUMOR: Kevin Love ‘Will Seriously Consider’ Opting Out, Eyes Return To L.A.

For much of the off-season, all the talk was about the Los Angeles Lakers targeting Kevin Love via trade or through free agency in 2015. However, the Minnesota Timberwolves ultimately traded the All-Star forward to the Cleveland Cavaliers where he joined forces with LeBron James and Kyrie Irving.

While the Cavaliers will be championship contenders for the next couple of seasons, Love still has an opportunity to opt-out of his current contract and become an unrestricted free agent next summer.

As a result, Sam Smith of Bulls.com writes that Love will seriously consider opting out and has his eyes on a return to Los Angeles:

It’s not going to get as much discussion during the season, but one of the biggest issues for the Cavs is that both LeBron James and Kevin Love own opt outs after this season. LeBron James basically cannot afford to go anywhere after his return to Cleveland. But watch out for Love. Indications are he will seriously consider the opt out and has his eyes on a return to Los Angeles, where he attended college and where the Lakers long have had him on their free agent wish list.

Although the chances of Love not re-signing with the Cavaliers are slim even after opting-out, anything can happen from now to July. Taking into account the Dwight Howard-Lakers situation in 2012, there would have to be a lot of issues during the course of the season for the All-Star forward to actually leave Cleveland.

For the Lakers, they will have ample cap space once again this upcoming off-season after signing most of the roster to one-year contracts. With the Lakers getting their first win of the season, they will look to build on it as they travel to Memphis to play the Grizzlies.
