Shootaround Report: Chris Kaman Out, Steve Nash Neck Issues

The Lakers take on the Utah Jazz at Staples Center tonight, but will be without Lakers big Chris Kaman due to persisting stomach issues, according to Mark Medina of the L.A. Daily News.

Lakers spokesman John Black said yesterday that Kaman is dealing with gastroenteritis. Kaman has not practiced with the team since he’s returned from China.

It’s unclear whether Steve Nash will suit up for tonight’s game, as Medina reports that according to Lakers head coach Mike D’Antoni, Nash is dealing with a neck issue. Originally, it was thought that Nash also had stomach issues after missing Sunday’s practice, but Nash told Lakers Nation yesterday that he was simply tired and jet-lagged and needed some time to recover from China. Nash also said yesterday that his ankle is “okay” and “serviceable.” It’s not comforting to hear that Nash can now add his neck to the list of issues.

The biggest surprise of the Lakers (2-4) preseason has been the combination of Kaman and Pau Gasol in the starting line-up. Hopefully, Kaman will be back for the Lakers last preseason game this upcoming Friday. The Lakers tip-off tonight against the Utah Jazz at 7:30 p.m. at Staples Center.
