The NBA Reset: 4/04/2011

Just a few points of interest from around the association…

  • Which NBA player is currently dating a Miss Universe? How about JJ Barea. Well done JJ… you go,  son.
  • Elgin Baylor lost his legal battle with the Clippers over a wrongful termination suit. What’s just flat out incredible is that Donald Sterling claimed he had no knowledge of Baylor’s prior accomplishments as a professional basketball player before hiring him to work for the Clippers. Absurd. It’s only a matter of time before the Clips lose Blake Griffin, and it’s all because of the clown at the top of the organization.
  • Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum were both injured during Sunday’s loss to the Nuggets. While Gasol was able to re-enter the game, Bynum was held out for precautionary reasons. Initially it seems like both will be available for the Lakers next game against Utah on Tuesday, but stay tuned…
  • My favorite player that no one is talking about? How about Sixers PG Jrue Holiday. He’s averaging 16 pts 8 assists and 4 rebounds over his last 10 games on nearly 50% from the field while helping lead Philadelphia to the playoffs. One of the biggest keys for Jrue this season has been cutting down on his turnover rate, and if he continues to make strides in that area he could easily become an All-Star in the next 1 to 3 years, maybe something like a Russell Westbrook with slightly better shooting numbers but a bit less athletic explosion. All this, and he’s only 20 years old!
  • This isn’t anything new (page says it’s from 2009) but I found an awesome Michael Jordan photo montage I hadn’t seen before and thought some folks might enjoy  (thank you reddit).
  • Miami is considering signing Eddy Curry for their playoff run. Boston and Chicago can only hope. This is would be a classic case of subtraction by addition.
  • Speaking of Miami, it’s looking like a Heat-Knicks first round match up is coming our way. Somewhere David Stern is smiling.
  • File this under things you didn’t know unless you’re a Houston area resident: The Rockets are third in the league in scoring at 106 per game, higher than Phoenix, Miami and Golden State. Even if Yao does ever manage to come back (doubtful) the identity of this team has fundamentally changed.

Finally this week’s fail bag.

You know there is nothing quite as spectacularly pathetic as five millionaires completely zoning out and failing to do their job (in unison). What it leads to is probably the strangest rebound and assist of Chris Bosh’s career. Come on T-Wolves, you’re better than that… aren’t you?
