The Week Ahead: Lakers Return Home From 6-Game Road Trip

The Los Angeles Lakers wrapped up their 12-day, six-game Grammy road trip going 3-3, although it feels that they should have only lost once.

After a hard fought victory in Denver, they faced Utah the next night, but not before arriving into Salt Lake City, Utah well after midnight. The game was close until the fourth quarter when head coach Mike Brown received two technical fouls for arguing with a referee about a missed call. This gave the Jazz two free throws, the ball, and a run that ultimately lifted the Jazz past the Lakers.

Despite the technical fouls by coach Brown, the Lakers struggled late in the game from what looked like tired legs syndrome from their travels. Their shots were short and their energy diminished. However, with Sunday off, they flew into Philadelphia and played well for 46 out of 48 minutes of basketball Monday night before handing the 76ers a win they did not deserve. As frustrating as it was to bear the loss, the Lakers looked like they were on the verge of becoming the team fans know they can be. All they needed to do now was learn how to win down the stretch.

Three days later in Boston the Lakers needed extra time and a last second block from Pau Gasol to defeat the Celtics 88-87. They fought hard in the fourth to force overtime and made a play to seal the victory. It looked like they figured out how to win by trusting in themselves and finding someone other than Kobe Bryant to step up and make a play. But then the debacle in New York happened against Jeremy Lin and the Knicks, leaving Lakers fans once again puzzled about their team’s talent.
