This Week In Lakers History: Kareem Becomes All-Time Scoring Leader
[new_royalslider id=”201″]

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is one of the greatest players in the history of the NBA. No one has ever been able to match his excellence and dominance over 20 years that Kareem had.

Kareem was also the inventor of the sky hook, a shot that was basically unstoppable. In 1984, he used that shot to set a record that still stands to this day.

On April 4, Kareem would hit a sky hook in a game against the Utah Jazz. That shot pushed his career point total to 31,419 surpassing Wilt Chamberlain to become the leading scorer in the history of the NBA.

Kareem would push his total to 38,387 points before he would call it a career. That number has yet to be approached by any of the NBA greats who have retired since Kareem stepped away from the game.

Kobe Bryant currently stands at 31,700 points for his career. Bryant will surely do everything in his power, but he is going to have to play at an even greater level if he hopes to catch Kareem’s record.

The fact that he broke the record with the sky hook made everything that much greater. Kareem used his signature shot to set a record that is highly unlikely to be broken anytime soon.

Kareem’s mark on this game continues to live on through this day. He is the greatest scorer the NBA has ever seen and set a record that most people don’t even come close to touching.

This week we remember the day that Kareem Abdul-Jabbar became the NBA’s All-Time leading scorer with a sky hook against the Utah Jazz.
