Throwback Thursday: Kobe Becomes Fifth Player To Score 30,000 Points

In honor of Steve Nash becoming third on the all-time NBA assists list, we look back to another Laker great’s amazing accomplishment. Just over a year ago, Kobe Bryant became just the fifth player in the history of NBA to score 30,000 points.

With less than two minutes left in the first half against the New Orleans Hornets, Kobe caught the ball at the top of three point line. He quickly attacked the defense, blowing by Al-Farouq Aminu, and then euro-stepping around Robin Lopez to score.

Bryant has been one the greatest scorers the league has ever seen. He became the youngest player to score 30,000 points at the age of 34 years and 102 days. Bryant was expected to chase Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record, but injuries have limited him to only six games this season. With two years left on his contract, it seems unlikely that he will be able to pass Kareem’s mark of 38,387 points.

Bryant would go on to pass another Laker legend, Wilt Chamberlain, and become the fourth highest scoring player in history. With 31,700 points, Bryant trails only Michael Jordan, Karl Malone, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
