University of Memphis Hires Luke Walton as Assitant Coach

According to Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports the University of Memphis has hired Los Angeles Lakers forward Luke Walton as an assistant coach during the NBA lockout.

Walton, who was selected by the Lakers as the 32nd overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft, has played for the Lakers his entire career. He helped the Lakers earn two NBA championships in 2009 and 2010, and is the son of legendary NBA center Bill Walton.

Perhaps the most notable moment from Walton’s career was back in 2006. Walton won a key jump ball for the Lakers that led to a game winning shot from Kobe Bryant to take a 3-1 series lead in the Western Conference Quarter-Finals against the Phoenix Suns.
