VIDEO: 2 Chainz Compares Himself to Kobe Bryant

2 Chainz is one of the most popular rappers today and as part of his video mini-series, he discusses his first time meeting Los Angeles Lakers superstar, Kobe Bryant.

According to HipHopDX.com, when he first met Bryant, 2 Chainz expressed how much respect he had for Bryant’s work ethic:

“I took the time just to explain to him how I use a strong correlation between me rapping like Kobe plays ball. And then I told him I said, ‘I honor and I respect you sacrificing your life to entertain us.’ And it was more or less me just basically explaining to him how I admire his work ethic.”

2 Chainz also discussed how much hard work both had to put in behind the scenes to get where they are now:

“I feel like people didn’t see what I was doing off the air when nobody was looking. [I want to know] how hard I was working on my left hand or my jump shot or my ability to become the next rap superstar. But when offered the chance to show my talent, I think I took my opportunity and ran with it.”

While it’s unusual to compare a rapper to a basketball player, both started their careers in the late 90’s. Bryant had to endure some growing pains in route to his five championships while it took 2 Chainz more than a decade to be relevant in the rap industry. Both had to remain patient during these times and now are able to enjoy their respective successes.

Like Bryant usually likes to tweet out after meeting other athletes or celebrities, “Different animal, same beast.”
