VIDEO: Byron Scott Calls Lakers ‘Selfish’ And ‘Soft’ After Loss

The Los Angeles Lakers lost to a now 13-win New York Knicks team on Thursday night, 101-94 and head coach Byron Scott was heated after the loss. Scott pointed to a complete lack of focus as the reason for the Lakers poor performance.

This got away before the game even started. Our mindset was nowhere where it should have been,” Scott said after the game. “First of all, I think we were just selfish as a basketball team tonight.”

Scott addressed the team’s shooting percentage and lack of ball movement as proof of players selfishness. He told the media his players acted like it was going to be an easy win, so they were focused on getting their points in the stat sheets.

We came out so soft, lack of focus and we allowed them to do whatever they wanted to do,” Scott said of his team’s first half performance.

The word “soft” is no stranger to this Lakers team. Back in January, after the Lakers blowout loss to the Clippers, Scott used the word a handful of times to describe his teams’ performance, though it was Kobe Bryant’s trash-talking tirade at Lakers practice this past December, when he called his team “soft like Charmin,” that brought attention to the phrase.

Scott will give the players a day off on Friday before they return to the practice floor on Saturday. The Lakers have two tough matchups ahead, the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday and the Golden State Warriors on Monday night.
