Los Angeles Lakers point guard D’Angelo Russell has had quite a busy summer so far. In addition to constantly being in the gym working to improve his game, he has also had a number of off the court opportunities, many of which have involved his good friend, and reigning rookie of the year, Karl-Anthony Towns of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The two starred in a commercial together that also involved Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker as well as the top overall draft pick this year, Ben Simmons. Russell and Towns have also been a part of a series of videos sponsored by DraftKings.

One video had the two reminiscing about their draft day experience last year, but this one takes on an entirely different subject as they choose the top-5 rappers in the game today via DraftKings.com:

The video itself is quite entertaining as the two trade off agreeing and disagreeing in different spots. While they quickly agree on a couple of people who definitely won’t make the list, things start to unravel when they begin discussing the likes of Kanye West, Future, and Chance the Rapper.

The two also speak on popular artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z, Drake, and J. Cole.

There has long been a connection between sports and hip-hop, even going all the way back to the days of the Chicago Bears and the ‘Super Bowl Shuffle.’ It just seems like most artists have fantasies about being great athletes, and vice versa.

Of course, basketball players trying to rap hasn’t necessarily produced the best of results so hopefully Russell and Towns stick to simply enjoying hip-hop and don’t choose to take that next step.
