The Lakers may be off to a slow start, but Lakers forward Metta World Peace (and, also shooting guard, as he informed us!) has taken his rap career full throttle. His new single, under the label Metta World (as he’s informed us is indicative of his transformation into a “polished musician”) was released Tuesday on iTunes.

Metta chats with Lakers Nation reporter Serena Winters while relaxing in his hotel bed before the Lakers take on the New York Knicks Thursday night. World talks about everything from the current Lakers squad to the inspiration behind his new single and his love of being shirtless.

Peace also informed us that although he loves to rap himself, he does not actually listen to hip-hop. Instead, he’s all about Beethoven, and other music from the 1880’s and 1920’s. His teammates, though, don’t share the same passion.

Between constant smiles and a clearly noticeable passion for his music, Peace does an impressive impromptu performance before revealing that although he likes the hip-hop culture he’s not a fan of the music.

Then, Metta World Peace left us with this great quote about his current state of mind.

“I mean I fell sexy right now, I might just eat whip cream off my body.”

(Inspiration for a new verse?) Let’s hope that confidence carries into the Lakers coming out with a win tonight, against a team that Metta disclosed he’s always dreamed of playing for, the New York Knicks.
