Video: Jon Hamm Mocks Dwight Howard At ESPY Awards

The 2013 ESPY Awards took place last night at Nokia Theater in downtown Los Angeles. The ESPN awards show honors the best events, athletes and stories from the sports world for the calendar year as voted by the fans.

The ESPYs was hosted by Mad Men actor Jon Hamm, who took some shots at a popular target in the sports world these days, Dwight Howard. At the beginning of the ESPYs, the host does a monologue, just like most other awards shows, and takes shots at some of the attendees or the high-profile figures of sports.

Considering that the show took place across the street from the home that Dwight Howard famously left, Hamm couldn’t resist slamming the new Rocket.

Met with boos (meant for Dwight, not Hamm) from the L.A. crowd, Hamm opened the Dwight jokes with the following:

“It’s great to be here in L.A., although not everyone feels that way. Dwight Howard recently announced he was leaving the Lakers.”

“He’s leaving the Lakers to play for the Houston Rockets,” Hamm said. “He’s leaving LA. So, um, I guess he finally found a way to help the Lakers win.”

The Bridesmaids actor wasn’t done with Dwight just yet. He then added:

“We thought it would be nice to honor Howard by taking a look at his greatest moments as a Laker. So lets roll it.”

Tina Turner’s “Simply the Best” started to play on the theater’s speakers and the cameras panned to the big screen behind Hamm on stage. The highlights ended before they really began, which got a big laugh out of the audience, including Dwyane Wade and LeBron James.

It is safe to say that this is only the beginning of the criticism for Dwight Howard’s decision to leave and it may be around for a while. Here’s the video of Hamm mocking Dwight in his monologue from the ESPY Awards on Wednesday night.
