Even though the Lakers didn’t have the 13th pick in the 1996 NBA Draft that pick would come to define the Los Angeles franchise for the next two decades.

The Charlotte Hornets drafted a lanky high school kid from Lower Merion and traded him to Hollywood. That same kid ended up re-writing the record books of one of the most prominent franchises in professional sports.

But before all of that he was just another cocky kid looking to prove himself in a man’s game.
