The Lakers have had an active summer, bringing back some of their own free agents like Jordan Clarkson, Tarik Black, and Marcelo Huertas while also signing proven veterans Timofey Mozgov and Luol Deng. The young team also added a pair of intriguing young prospects in rookies Brandon Ingram and Ivica Zubac, who were selected in the NBA Draft.

Ingram, in particular, has Lakers fans optimistic for a bright future. At 6’9″ with a 7′ wingspan and possessing the ability to stretch the floor with his shooting, Ingram appears to be the prototypical modern basketball player. He comes from a great system at Duke, and his development will be a big factor in the future success of the franchise.

In fact, part of the reason why the 31-year-old Deng was signed is to act as a mentor for Ingram. Deng also spent his college days at Duke and is known around the league as a true professional. He has a wealth of knowledge thanks to a 12-year NBA career, and will look to be a positive influence as Ingram makes the transition from college to the NBA.

Check out Deng’s interview with Chris McGee of Time Warner Cable SportsNet above where he talks about what led him to sign with the Lakers and what he believes his role will be.
