VIDEO: Magic Johnson Talks Showtime Lakers, 2013 Dodgers

The Dodgers have always been a staple in the culture of Los Angeles, but the Lakers have taken over as the premier team of the city. In the 80s, Los Angeles got to see seven titles between the two teams — the Lakers won five and the Dodgers won two. However, the Dodgers haven’t seen a title since the 1988 World Series while the Lakers have won five more, missing the playoffs only twice.

Enter Magic Johnson, the point guard of the Lakers Showtime era in the 80s who has essentially been a winner everywhere he’s gone. He won with Michigan State, won with the Lakers, won as a business man and now has the Dodgers playing their best baseball in the last few years. The level of excitement surrounding the Dodgers is at its highest since the Dodgers were running LA in the 80s.

In the video below, Johnson talks about owning the Dodgers and that the only way he would be a part of it is if the Dodgers were winning. In his first year as a minority of the Dodgers, that’s exactly what they’ve done. After getting off to a slow start, the Dodgers posted one of the best 50-game stretches in MLB history going 42-8 during the stretch. Watch the video of Magic’s connection with the Lakers and Dodgers below.
