The Lakers came home from their seven game road-trip with a 4-3 record, but much of the topic of conversation was focused on the media. Tensions between head coach Mike D’Antoni and reporters were high at the Lakers facility this morning, and D’Antoni made it apparent that he has not been fond of the media since he took the job in Los Angeles. As a matter of fact, D’Antoni admitted that he actually doesn’t like the media at all after ESPN’s Ramona Shelbourne asked about coaching through the media.
“I don’t like you guys at all, so I wouldn’t want to coach through the media. You don’t do that…I can’t do it and don’t like it… Things should be kept in house but we haven’t mastered that trick yet.”
That wasn’t all. D’Antoni was asked multiple questions the most recent comments made by Dwight Howard’s father. At first he tried to keep his cool, but his fumes flared as he once again pointed the problem at the media.
“I’m really surprised here in LA that seems to be the norm…that ‘don’t talk to each other, let’s just talk to the media…that’s not good.”
I will admit, there is a lot of added pressure that comes with a head coaching job here in the city of Los Angeles. But, Mike D’Antoni did take the job, and it’s starting to show that the media isn’t something he can handle. For more on D’Anotni’s testy interaction with the media today.
