Lakers GM Mitch Kupchack said he spoke to Kobe Bryant this morning before his surgery, and it is his understanding that aiming for Kobe to be back at the start of the season is a realistic goal.
“I think that’s a realistic goal for him based on what he was talking about this morning.”
But, is there a possibility that the Lakers could consider amnestying Kobe Bryant next year? The Lakers are currently about $30 million over the luxury tax threshold and with the new luxury progressive tax system, that would equal about $85 million next year. Kupchak said amnestying Kobe is not something that has been discussed.
“That’s not even something that we’ve discussed and decisions … my understand without going into great detail…That is not something that gets to the fall… I think that’s something that happens in July so its not really something that takes place next year, but that’s the furthest thing from our mind right now.”
